WHAT TO LOOK FOR
Squirrels are sometimes considered pests because of their destructive behaviour of chewing on various edible and inedible objects. This characteristic trait aids in maintaining sharp teeth, and because squirrel teeth grow continuously, prevents over-growth. In residential areas with a heavy squirrel population it is recommended to keep attics and basements sealed to prevent property damage caused by nesting squirrels. Tree squirrels create minor annoyances by: digging in planting pots and flower beds to pull out bulbs (which they chew on); digging to bury or recover seeds and nuts; and building nests within structures, including attics and basements. It is always recommended to visually inspect, at ground level, where squirrels are coming and going from. On the interior of a structure, pay attention to scurrying noises and/or scratching on walls.
HOW TO IDENTIFY A SQUIRREL
Tree squirrels include over a hundred species that are found on all continents, except Antarctica and Australia. Tree squirrels live mostly among trees, as opposed to other squirrels that live in burrows in the ground or between rocks.

One of the first questions we ask clients is, “Where are you seeing the squirrels coming and going from?” The goal is to identify the access point(s). Our first preference is to install squirrel one-way doors. This will allow the squirrel to exit the roof line safely and find a new home in the area. Once the squirrels have exited the roof line, the squirrel one-way door is removed and access holes are sealed. From time to time, live trapping is an option. How do I know if I have a mouse or a squirrel in a wall void?
The easiest way to know if you have a squirrel or mouse in the wall is by doing the knock test; knock on the wall where you are hearing the noise. If the noise stops, then reoccurs in the same general area within a couple of minutes, it is probably mice due to a freeze response. Larger wildlife tends to have a flight response and will flee disturbance.
